Kitchen Sink Scrubber
This idea wasn't entirely my own but actually came from my husband. So I really like crocheted rags, they feel homey and are reliable. They also remind me of living a bit less consumer-ly. The other thing is that I can make one in a day and don't have to follow a pattern for a simple one. So I had this pink and orange blend yarn that was hand me down and the ball was maybe two inches in diameter and figured it was probably enough yarn to make a little rag. Well I got started on this rag and about five rows in I knew I wasn't going to have enough yarn to get anywhere, I wasn't sure what to do as I didn't really want to undo all my work and my husband suggested I make it a scrubber. So I did I folded the project in half and stitched a border around the entire edge and I love it. I think I prefer using a rag to wash dishes, particularly crocheted rags which offer a good scrubbing texture but I'm so used to using a sponge that the size of a rag throws my off. This was a perfect balance in size and texture and my favorite part is that I can just wash it in the laundry when it smells after being used for so many dishes. I made myself a set of four and didn't follow an exact pattern for any so their sizes are a bit different.
I love that I can just fold the one I'm currently using up and keep it on an old soap dish when I'm not washing dishes.
Here's my sorta pattern:
I chained around 20 (this will be double the length of the scrubber)
I then double crocheted five rows before folding the entire work in half (so it's shaped like a sponge)
To finish I single crocheted around the edge before fastening off.
