Kids Growth Chart

I always wanted a door jam with my growing heights growing up but we moved a lot and always rented so it wasn't ever an option. So I planned on having one with my kids but we already have our first and don't have our own house to write on the door jams. I've also seen these fantastic growth charts made from wood all over Pinterest. We made our own and I came up with a little system to keep it from being crammed with marks by the time we've marked all our kids someday (hey it's Utah I'm going to have more than one). So I have my husbands and I's heights marked near the top as were done growing and I will mark our kids every year on their birthday in sharpie and I'll mark them with pencil any other time of the year. It will make their height a special thing to remember and get marked on their birthday.
It's a fence post with rounded top corners from my father in law and nice cedar wood (we didn't stain or even have to paint it). We sanded it and I marked the inch marks with a ruler before painting them on. Using a ruler to keep them sorta straight and uniform in length I painted the lines with black acrylic. The numbers I did with sharpie (they didn't end up bleeding into the wood, which I was worried about). I put two screws in the back and wrapped wire between the two, so I can hang it on a screw sticking a bit out of the wall so the whole thing sits over the floor molding and is still level and flush.
Here's our chart so far:

It will be fun to watch how our family grows and have it documented in one place.
